Hello everyone! As some of you know, I will be representing Team USA and competing in the Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) World Cup in Oshawa, Canada this summer. The journey to this event for me began back in 2010, when I made the US team for the first time. Since then it was my dream and my goal to make the 18-player roster that would play in the 2013 World Cup. Now I can’t believe it is finally here! All the tryouts, all the training, all the practices and games are for this. And now I have a new goal… to bring home a gold medal!
With the spring college seasons complete, it was time for the USA players, coaches and trainers to come together to start preparing for the World Cup. Of course, we have been training for the past three years, but now it all feels a little more real.
On Saturday, June 29th we headed over to Johns Hopkins University to play in a USA Alumni game. It was a really fun experience to get to play with some great players from the past… many of who are still in amazing shape! After the game, we had a parent-daughter dinner. This is one of my favorite types of fundraisers that U.S. Lacrosse does. Parents and daughter from all over come to spend the night with us and have dinner, and we get to meet some of the cutest kids who love lacrosse.
For the next three days we practiced twice a day. Practice is tough, and we were constantly going hard and fast in every drill. But the best thing about this team is that everyone likes to work hard. We all love lacrosse, and we all want to win Gold, and the only way to do that is to train like champions!
On July 2nd, we all headed home for a much needed 2 days off. I relaxed at home, saw some fireworks at Gilette Stadium and spent July 4th at a family BBQ. On July 5th, I was at the airport again, this time headed to Buffalo, N.Y. for our second training camp.
