Baseball 4/10 - North Attleboro @ Taunton
The Breakdown:
Going into Monday’s game against Oliver Ames, North Attleboro had outscored its first two opponents 25-6. The Rocketeers offense is already in midseason form and Ryan Gagne is leading the way with four hits and four RBI. Jake Lang was huge in the 16-5 blowout of Foxboro, knocking in five runs on four hits, while Chris Bredberg and Matt Hardy continue to set the table for the big hitters in the middle of the order. Do not overlook North’s rotation. Corey Walker pitched five solid innings in the opener and, thanks to big leads in both games, the Rocketeers have not had to overwork any of their starters. That will be a big plus heading into a three-game week against OA (a strong contender in the Davenport), Taunton (one of the favorites coming into the season) and huge rival Bishop Feehan.
For Taunton, the season hasn’t exactly gotten off to the start that they were expecting. After routing Milford 10-2 in the opener, they’ve dropped two straight home games, an eye-opening 6-0 loss to Sharon and a heartbreaking 7-6 extra innings defeat at the hands of New Bedford. Taunton will look to senior captain and first baseman Matt MacLean to lead the way against a hot-starting North Attleboro squad. MacLean went 2-5 with an RBI against New Bedford while third baseman Ryan Rollo is another solid player for the Tigers. Sophomore Sam Moor, who had two RBI against Milford in Taunton’s lone win of the season, is another player to watch for Taunton.
