The first 50 times that King Philip and North Attleboro have played, it's been a one-sided affair. The Rocketeers hold a 40-9-1 record over Kelley-Rex rival King Philip, but that doesn't reflect recent history. The Warriors have won four of the last five, including three straight wins. In the past five years, King Philip has averaged 25.2 games against North while the Rocketeers have averaged 17.6. What that tells you is that this contest very well could be a close one.
In the last five years, four of the five games have decided by 14 points or less. The only game that wasn't was last year's 49-19 win by the Warriors at home. Now King Philip must travel to North Attleboro and Community Field.
So far this season, KP and North are two of the highest scoring teams in the Hockomock League. North Attleboro is fourth in the league with just over 25 points game scored a game. KP is right behind in fifth with just under 25 points scored a game. On defense, KP only trails Canton in points allowed with 9.67. North Attleboro has allowed 19 points on average so far this season, but have a shutout to their name.

North Attleboro
North Attleboro comes into Friday night’s encounter with King Philip on a high after handily beating perennial rival Mansfield last week on the grass at Community Field. The Rocketeers will hope that the momentum of that victory, which showed huge improvement on both sides of the ball, will carry over into this week’s match-up.
After suffering a concussion in the opening loss to Stoughton, Justin Gallagher returned to the lineup against the Hornets and led two scoring drives and threw for one touchdown. He split time with junior Brodey Barr, who ran for a touchdown on North’s first offensive play. Gallagher, a senior, is the better all-around quarterback at this point, but Barr gives the Rocketeers a change of pace with his ability to run the ball.
North’s offense struggled at times against the front seven of Mansfield, strange as that may be since the Rocketeers scored 42 points, but it showed the capability for big plays. Sophomores Nick Rajotte and Bobby Mylod have been sparks on special teams and have each played bigger roles on offense as well. They are shifty and quick and have the potential to break for a touchdown on each play. On the outside, Andrew Hanwell has emerged as the go to receiver and big play threat.
On the defensive side, North struggled against Stoughton, particularly in the secondary, but against the Hornets the young defensive backs showed great improvement in limiting Mansfield’s ability to look down the field. Hanwell was the key to this with two interceptions and not allowing the Hornets to have deep passes down the sideline.
The front seven also looked improved with Max Kroll, Anthony Raneri, and Pat Munley all having big games up front, which will be a key to shut down the KP running game and Mark Glebus. Kroll also had a pair of sacks against Mansfield and North will be looking to get the same amount of pressure on sophomore QB John DeLuca.
King Philip
King Philip enters Friday night's key Kelley-Rex showdown with North Attleboro as just one three undefeated teams leader in the Hockomock Leeague. The Warriors are coming off a dominate win over Taunton, a game in which they put up 33 points in the first half alone.
The Warriors were a question mark coming into this season after they lost key players at key positions. Joe Johnston and Christian Flaherty were key cogs in the backfield but are now gone. JJ Dillon was very experienced at the quarterback position and Brett McEvoy was one of the best linebackers in the league. But through three games, the Warriors have had talent emerge in those spots and haven't missed a beat.
On offense, the team is averaging just under 25 points a game, which is fifth best in the league so far. Sophomore John DeLuca had a tremendous game against Taunton and has thrown four touchdowns this season - three of which game in the first half last week - and has rushed for two more himself. Running back Mark Glebus was on the HockomockSports.com Players to Watch on Offense list in the preseason and he's lived up to the billing so far. He broke off a ridiculous touchdown run against Taunton, breaking tackles in the backfield before spinning through another and rushing right up the middle of the defense. Senior Kyle Loewen is always a threat to break off a big play and KP also boasts Peter Garrity, Andrew Robillard and Lukas Cepkauskas as threats at the receiver position. Chris Winbourne has done a solid job on the offensive line and sophomore fullback Gio Fernandez is starting to emerge as a possible threat as well.
On the defensive side of the ball, the Warriors are playing typical King Philip defense. They're allowing just 9.67 points per game, which is second best in the entire Hockomock League. The Warriors are strong up front and make it very difficult to do much of anything. Glebus and Loewen are also dangerous on the defensive side of the ball, along with linebackers Brian Donahue and Cory Lombardo. Winbourne and Garrity have both also been strong on the defensive line.
