Games of the Week - 1/8/13
Breakdown
In our preseason preview with Brendan Hall, Ryan Lanigan, and Josh Perry, all three made mention to Mansfield against Franklin this coming Friday as a game to watch out for. Now, it's the game just three days before that has people all throughout the league and even some people throughout the entire state paying close attention.
Mansfield brings their perfect league record and their impressive 6-1 record into Taunton, looking to hand the undefeated Tigers (6-0) their first loss of the season.
Both teams have played impressive so far this season with Mansfield averaging 69 points per - only one point behind Milford's league-leading 70 PPG - game while Taunton isn't far behind with 63 PPG - good for third in the league. On the defensive end, both the Hornets and the Tigers are surrendering an average of 52 points per game.
Players to Watch
It looks as though Mansfield's Brendan Hill is starting to hit his stride, but the most dangerous person on the Hornets right now could be Ryan Boulter. The sophomore has had incredible success from three this season and has led the team in scoring in almost every game. Mansfield will be without junior Michael Hershman, who has missed the entire season with a groin injury. Senior captain Greg Romanko's size and versatility along with the point play of Rocky DeAndrade will be important for Mansfield.
For Taunton, they have received contributions from throughout the starting five. Fawaz Mass started the season with a great first game and has continued his scoring success through the season. He has seen help from Shaq Davis and Gerald Cortijo as well as sophomore Corey Green. Expect Taunton to have well-rounded scoring on Tuesday.
