'13-'14 HockomockSports.com Ice Hockey Awards
Oliver Ames junior Tyler Provost has been named the HockomockSports.com Hockey Player of the Year for the 2013-2014 season, the second season the award has been given. Provost was also voted a Hockomock League All Star by the coaches.
"Tyler is an incredibly skilled player," said HockomockSports.com Editor-in-Chief Ryan Lanigan. "He has an top-notch work ethic and is always among the best skaters on the ice every game. He always brings his 'A' game and is a great example of a person with high character."
Provost led the Tigers in scoring, registering a team-high 16 goals and adding a team-high 15 assists for 31 points on the season.
"He's the type of kid - I want to be like that, that's the type of player I want to be," said Oliver Ames head coach Mark Homer. "I just love who he is as a person, he's an all around great kid. He's a great representative of the game. He's very good on the ice, he scores a lot of goals and logs a lot of ice time."
Provost was the Tigers' best face off man and was one of the best in the entire league. His hard work and skill are noticed around the league.
"Tyler is a gamer," said Canton head coach Brian Shuman. "He is a threat to score every time he touches the ice. Every team in the Hock keys on him and tries to shut him down, but he's too good. He will create his own opportunities or create chances for others."
The junior captain mixes his speed with his high skill level to cause havoc for opposing defenses. He isn't afraid to dig in on the boards either and become the set up man.
"He adjusts very well," Homer said of what makes Provost excel. "He's got a very, very high hockey IQ. He doesn't see the ice three or four feet in front of him, he sees it 30 feet in front of him. He knows what he's going to do well before he's going to do it. One of the reasons he can do that is that he's got speed. The kid can move. He's very, very quick and good on his edges and he's a real confident skater."
Provost joins Canton's Brian Brooks (2012-2013) as winners of the award.
Honorable Mention: Ben Lodge, Canton. Troy Donahue, Franklin.

Oliver Ames junior Jimmy Tierney has been named the HockomockSports.com Hockey Goalie of the Year for the 2013-2014 season, the second season the award has been given. Tierney was also named a Hockomock League All Star, as voted by the coaches.
"Jimmy really turned it on in the second half of the season, coming up with some of the best goalie performances we saw all season," said HockomockSports.com Editor-in-Chief Ryan Lanigan said. "When all eyes turn to Jimmy, he doesn't shy away from the moment and thrives in pressure situations."

"He's a money goaltender," said Oliver Ames head coach Mark Homer. "When it's time to come up big, he just thrives on those situations and you saw it at the end of the season. The saves he was supposed to make, he made them. He started to make the tough saves look easy."
Tierney finished by surrendering just one goal in the last 111:29 minutes of the season, plus four shootout attempts in the Tigers' playoff win over Westwood.
"The thing with Jimmy that he has that you can't coach is that he's very poised in the net," Homer added. "Whether he's playing good or playing bad, that never changes with him. He has a calming effect. When he's in his zone, he's reading the ice so well. He's not only seeing the first shot, he knows in his head where the second shot is coming from if there is one."

"He has built a tremendous legacy of success at Canton High School, and year in and year out he gets the very best out of his teams. As good of a coach he is, he's an better mentor and he has shown us how to be good people.
"He has taught us how to handle success with humility and respect but he has also shown us how to handle adversity with courage and grace," Lodge added. "He and our coaches showed us the true definition of what it means to 'Fight like a Bulldog,' and I feel very lucky that I had the opportunity to play for Coach Shuman."
