Game of the Week
Hockey: King Philip @ North Attleboro
Well, the stakes couldn't be much higher for these two teams.
The 8:10PM puck drop from Foxboro Sports Center is the second the last game of the regular season - and just by five minutes and will have huge playoff implications. Neither team has qualified for the postseason yet but both could still do so. If there is a winner in the game, that team will be heading to the playoffs while the loser will be forced to watch from the bleachers. However, if the teams skate to a tie, then both teams will be headed to the playoffs with .500 records.
The two teams met once already this season, a league game that saw King Philip take 4-1. After that game, the Warriors dropped three straight but have won six of their last seven games. North Attleboro fell to Mansfield a week later, but has won five of their last seven games.
What do you think will happen? Will one team win and head to the playoffs stag or will they tie and both head to the postseason? Make sure to vote in our poll below.
Players to Watch:
For King Philip, freshman Zach D'Amico has really emerged as a top scoring threat in the league. Older brother Nick was a rock as a defenseman before he graduated last year but Zach has proven to be a consistent goal scorer. Senior captain Derek Abramson has been an anchor in the back so far this season and classmate Dylan Unger, who is in his second year as the starting goalie, has been another consistent for the Warriors. Sophomore John Piatelli is another name to keep an eye on at the forward position and the same goes for junior Tom Hanson. Mike Owen, Jason Bolduc and Brandon King have also had standout moments for King Philip this season.
North Attleboro's strongest asset is their first line, mainly juniors Sean Young and Marshall Blackman. The duo has combined for an impressive 53 points. Young is going to give 110% for 45 minutes and can cause headaches for opposing defenseman. Blackman has a very strong skill set and the two compliment each other very nicely. Freshman Erik Clements has progressed nicely for the Rocketeers and could be a huge factor in the battle of second lines. Other forwards to keep an eye on include seniors Matt McAuliffe and Brandon Poilluci, junior Mark Ventola and sophomore Andrew Casson while Anthony Manganaro is the leader in the back. Matt Raposo has shown flashes of brilliance this season and has the capability to steal a game.
