Games of the Week
Boys Basketball Overview
Canton (4-7) @ Milford (4-7), 6:30
Both schools are struggling for consistency, so this could be a game that turns around a season. The Bulldogs are led by Sam Larson who has a serious shout for being the league MVP this season. Larson entered the week fifth in scoring in the league and has since upped his average to 18.4. Beyond Larson, the Bulldogs are hoping to get their shooting touch back. Milford is led on offense by Jordan Johnson (14.4 PPG), but have other options like Sean Fitzpatrick and Chris Brown that can go off at any time. This one looks like it will come down to the fourth quarter.
Oliver Ames (4-6) @ Foxboro (5-6), 6:30
The Davenport looks to belong to Sharon but there has yet to be a second team to really emerge from the rest. Oliver Ames and Foxboro both picked up huge wins last Friday that could catapult them for the rest of the season, but only one of them will make it two in a row. The Warriors showed their depth last week, getting contributions off the bench from Keeyon Neal, Derek Gilreath and freshman Mark Clagg. Pair that with the emergence of Cam Seeley and Foxboro is a team not to take lightly. For Oliver Ames, Ryan Carney went off in the second half against Stoughton, something that the Tigers are going to need. Emanuel Simeon has been a nice spark for the Tigers who also boast Brendan Welch and top 20 scorer Chris Kyne.
Franklin (7-4) @ King Philip (5-5), 6:30
The Warriors are certainly going to be looking for revenge after the Panthers shut them out for the entire third quarter in their first meeting. KP was won five of their last seven games and will be looking to catch Franklin looking ahead to their game with Mansfield at the TD Garden Saturday. Franklin, who boasts two Top 20 scorers in the league in Chris Rodgers (17.3) and Marcus Giese (9.1) will look sweep the season series with the Warriors again this year. The Panthers have been won their last two games by at least 18 points and won't be looking past KP on Friday night.
Taunton (9-2) @ North Attleboro (0-9), 6:30
The Tigers are coming off a huge win over Sharon on Thursday night and will look to keep their momentum going with their first meeting with North Attleboro this season. Their first meeting was postponed so this will be the first time Shaq Davis, Gerald Cortijo and company see North Attleboro. Truly Kenku showed just how athletic he is on Thursday and when healthy - combined with Matt Midouin and Marcus Santos-Silva create a formidable front court. North Attleboro will be playing with nothing to lose and with Ben Gardner able to go off on scoring tears, the Rocketeers will look to catch Taunton off guard.
Stoughton (3-7) @ Sharon (9-3), 6:30
The Eagles are coming off a tough loss on the road to a very good Taunton team and will look to bounce back against a hungry Stoughton team. Sharon has responded with a win after each of their first two losses this year and Brian Mukasa has had good success against the Black Knights in the past. With Mukasa's partner-in-crime Jimmy Fritzson fighting through a back injury, sophomore Jordan Mello-Klein will be key against the Black Knights. Stoughton had a lead against rival Oliver Ames but was unable to hold on. Stanley Sajous leads the Black Knights in scoring at 10.4 but it will be important that Stoughton will get balanced scoring and solid defense to try and upset Sharon.
Franklin (7-4) vs. Mansfield (12-1) (Saturday, 5:30 @ TD Garden)
Franklin will be playing their second game in as many days when they tip off against Mansfield at the TD Garden. The teams faced off just two weeks ago with the Hornets coming out on top, running away with it in the second half. Now the Hornets will be coming off their first loss of the season, a 61-58 loss late at the hands of Attleboro. It's yet to be seen how Mansfield will deal with their first loss, but if last season is an indication, they should be able to bounce back. There is a lot of likely all stars in this game and given the venue, is a can't miss match up.
Milford (4-7) @ Attleboro (8-5), 6:00
We'd be remiss if we didn't include every boys hoops team in this, and especially Attleboro after coming off one of the biggest wins any team will have this season. The Bombardiers will host the Scarlet Hawks on Saturday in a game that was originally scheduled for Tuesday. EJ Santarpio and Brandon Clark both scored 17 points and hit clutch baskets to hand Mansfield their first loss on Thursday. Tim Walsh has been, as he has been in the past, a rock for Attleboro and now with a strong supporting cast, Attleboro is a team no one can take lightly. Milford hosts Canton on Friday night before heading to Attleboro on Saturday. The Scarlet Hawks could be coming off a season turnaround win and could be looking to pull off an upset in similar fashion that Attleboro did. There's no nights off in the Hcokomock and Attleboro proved that Thursday.

Girls Basketball Overview
Milford (3-7) @ Canton (0-12), 7:00
The Scarlet Hawks had lost six in a row since beating Canton 59-43 in the team’s first meeting back in early December but shocked Davenport leader Sharon last week to get the first win in 2014. Jessica Pye and Gabby Asam led the way against the Eagles and will be expected to again on Friday as Milford tries to climb up the division standings. Canton will lean on the scoring of junior guard Gabby Kenefick, who put up 13 points against Mansfield on Tuesday, and rebounding of freshman Emma Murphy. Both teams are much-improved from the early season meeting, so it should be a much closer game the second time around.
Mansfield (8-2) @ Attleboro (8-4), 6:30
The Hornets opened the season with a 59-51 victory at home against the Bombardiers and know that they need to win again to stay in the Kelley-Rex title race. The two consistent scorers for Mansfield have been the Maher sisters (sophomore guard Caroline and senior forward Janet), who are each averaging in double digits this season. Coach Mike Redding is starting to find a nice rotation with his perimeter options including Kim Foley, Jess Stoyle, and Jackie Carchedi. Attleboro will match the Hornets on the outside with Keri Beland and Emily Houle, who are also each averaging double digits. The interesting battle will be on the inside with experienced seniors on both teams. Janet Maher and Lauren Beecher will battle with Beth Clifton and Bri Laplume for every rebound. A pair of freshmen, Jen Peel of Mansfield and Sarah Deyo of Attleboro, could be the difference coming off the bench.
Foxboro (5-4) @ Oliver Ames (5-5), 6:30
The Tigers won the first meeting 46-43 and this should be another close game between two teams battling for second in the division. Last year this game would have been decided at the forward postion with Caitlin Abela and Ashley Snyder being the focus. This year, it is about the guards with high-scoring Katherine Tamulionis (Foxboro) going up against Michaela Leivi (OA). The two are among the top scorers in the league this season. Both teams will look to move the ball up-court quickly and the point guard battle between the Tigers Kate Holleran and Foxboro’s Jamie Ballou will be interesting as on paper it is a match-up of size versus quickness. The teams are tied for second in the Davenport, so this will be a huge game in the standings.
King Philip (6-4) @ Franklin (8-2), 6:30
KP has been one of the surprise packages of the season and no more so then when they upset the Kelley-Rex leaders 53-45 in the second game of the season. The Warriors are a physical team with balance between shooters such as Alicia Cuoco and Grace Davis and post players like Ellen Wagner and Emily Sullivan. Franklin will try to match the Warriors on the post with Lauren Irvine and Aubrie Kutil and can stack the perimeter with solid shooters like Julianne Pisani and sophomore Lauren Rudolph. An interesting match-up could be Player of the Year candidate Lexi Martin versus Amanda Johnson, who is one of the few KP post players that can try to stay with Martin on the drive and in transition. Both teams like to pressure the ball on defense so points could be at a premium on Friday in the Field House.
North Attleboro (6-3) @ Taunton (4-7), 6:30
Because of the snowstorm this will be back-to-back meetings for these teams following North’s 65-41 win on Saturday. The Rocketeers picked up a pair of important league games last week by beating the Tigers and the night before knocking off Mansfield. North will try to guard Anna McDaniel, one of the league’s leading scorers, with several players including Melissa Beaupre and Ali McHugh, but don’t be surprised to see a lot of zone from Coach DelBonis as well. Taunton will try to counter any zone with shooters Alisha Silva and Jordan Wade. Sofaya Leon has also been growing as an offensive weapon for the Tigers. North is developing into one of the deepest teams in the league with a strong cast playing behind headliners Beaupre and Danielle Perron. Point guard Jill Costello and McHugh provide leadership and outside shooting and a host of young players like Emily Peters, Julia Strachan, and Ashley Ahern provide solid minutes off the bench.
Sharon (5-2) @ Stoughton (4-5), 7:30
The division-leading Eagles have lost two in a row after a five-game win streak to start the season. Injuries and illness have derailed Sharon in the past week, but the Eagles will be hoping to have Player of the Year candidate Karlie O’Driscoll and point guard Lily Abarbanel back for Friday’s game. Their return would allow Andrea Bender to get some much-needed rest as she battles a back injury. Stoughton has lost back-to-back games and gave up a big fourth quarter run to OA last week that knocked them out of second place in the Davenport. LeiAndra Busby has been the standout for the Black Knights this season averaging more than 12 points per game. If Sharon has its players back, then the Eagles will go into Friday as favorites, but without them it could be anyone’s game.

Hockey Previews
North Attleboro (4-6-1) @ Mansfield (8-1-1), 8:10 (Friday)
These two teams had an incredible game last year with North Attleboro picking up their first ever win over the Hornets in a 2-1 win. This year, although North's record doesn't show it, should be another high intensity rival game. Adam Blackman is having an incredible year, picking up a goal and an assist this week to add his season total. He's complimented nicely by linemates Jared Collins and Kyle Hurley, who offer a great balance of power and skill. Sophomore Billy Grant has also shown glimpses of great skill while defensemen Will Kelleher and Evan Kershaw have played well for the Hornets. North Attleboro similarly boasts a top notch top line with Sean Young (8G, 8A), Marshall Blackman (8G, 7A) and Ryan Ma (5 points). Defenseman Anthony Manganaro is always a rock in the back for North and goalie Matt Raposo is having a very strong year in net.
Attleboro (6-4-3) @ Taunton (4-7), 2:00
Taunton has only one once in the league this season, has only scored five goals in five games in the Hockomock, and been shutout three times. Those aren't promising numbers for the Tigers as they "host" Attleboro on Saturday afternoon. The Bombardiers are a bruising team that has been very strong defensively led by seniors Cam Farrell and Travis Tanguay, who is also tied for the team lead in goals and points. Attleboro is not a high octane offensive team, although it did score six in the teams' first meeting, but Zach Larkin is the primary creator with Tyler Dutremble and Luke Chomyszak the recipients. Taunton will need its young roster to find some open room in the Attleboro defense to try and beat Andrew Campion who is giving up just over two goals a game. Senior Cody Gallagher leads the way for Taunton but watch out for a couple of freshmen in Nick Terry and Zach Albert.
Canton (4-3-4) @ Foxboro (2-6-2), 5:20
The Bulldogs had a huge win over Oliver Ames a week ago before falling to Newburyport to start this week. They erased any doubt that they could bounce back by handling a very strong Medfield team midweek. The scary part about the Bulldogs is the contributions they have been getting from their youth. Sophomore Matt Lazaro is tied for the team with 16 points and leads the team in goals with nine. Freshman Jerry Harding has also stepped up and has had seven helpers so far this season while freshman defenseman Jackson Maffeo has played with tremendous confidence. The fact that there's that much talent to go with John Femia, Ben Lodge, Andrew Howlett and Anthony Francescon shows how good the Bulldogs can be. Foxboro suffered a set back on the road against high-scoring Milford but showed a lot of character a week ago when they scored twice in the third period to comeback and tie Stoughton. Kyle Sperzel is a very talented player that can't be left open in open ice and sophomore Liam Lynch has shown glimpses of great skill throughout the season.
Stoughton (3-7-1) @ Milford (7-2-2), 7:00
It's never easy to beat a team twice in one season, as Foxboro proved to Stoughton just a week ago. The Black Knights are looking to keep that statement true when they look for revenge from a 7-0 season opening loss to the Scarlet Hawks. After being shutout 10 days ago to Canton, the Scarlet Hawks have responded with 21 goals in their last three games and just three against. Jared Balzarini and Brad White are having great success this year scoring the puck and have been complimented nicely by junior Drew Wilde. They'll go against one of the toughest tests in Stoughton goalie PJ Sheehan. Sheehan's numbers have never told the entire story and is widely known as one of the top goalies in the league. He has the ability to steal any given game and Stoughton will know what to expect from Milford.
Franklin (5-4-1) @ King Philip (3-7-1)
The Warriors have been struggling to find the back of the net and the Panthers have given up only three goals in league play this season. That seems like a back combination for the hosts on Saturday at the Foxboro Sports Center, but KP can skate and with senior forward Mike Owen, junior Tom Hansen, and freshman Zach D'Amico there is the possibility of getting goals. Goalie Dylan Unger may be the key for the Warriors as he has been excellent this season. Junior Ryan Spillane (19 points) has been Franklin's top point-getter, but this is a balanced attack and Alec Borkowski and Troy Donahue are also capable of big games. Defensively, Franklin is stout led by Kyle Powers and Kyle Filbert with the combo of Devon Maloof and Mike Donadio in goal. The Panthers will have to be concerned about the trap game facing a huge showdown on Wednesday against Mansfield.
Oliver Ames (5-3-2) @ Brockton (1-7-2)
It hasn't been the smoothest of sailings for Oliver Ames the last couple of weeks with results and injuries, but they're looking to turn that around with a 'road' game against Brockton. The Boxers were able to take a tie from the Tigers last season, but given the circumstances, it was a tough situation for OA to be playing in. This game gives the Tigers a chance to let out their recent frustrations and could boost them for the remainder of the season. Center Tyler Provost has to be among Player of the Year candidates but it will be interesting to see who develops on either side of him. OA is going to need a couple of new faces to step up and take leading roles for the rest of the season.
