HockomockSports.com 2013 Field Hockey Awards
Player of the Year: Kellie Stigas, Canton
Canton senior Kellie Stigas has been selected as the inaugural HockomockSports.com Field Hockey Player of the Year for the 2013 fall season.
Stigas, who is committed to Northeastern University, helped the Bulldogs to a Davenport division title and an overall record of 12-2-5, which included the No. 8 seed in the Division1 South sectional.
The senior captain led the Bulldogs with 15 goals and 10 assists. Both totals were third best in the Hockomock League and her total of 25 points was also third in the league. She was also instrumental in big games such as the lone goal to beat rival Foxboro, a pair of goals in the 2-0 win over Mansfield, and a hat trick and two assists in a 5-1 win over Sharon.
Following the win over the Warriors, Canton head coach Fior Griffin noted, “She has great stick work, is a great leader on the field, and knows the game really well…We’re very lucky to have her.”
