After one year off, Stoughton and North Attleboro will clash again this Friday night at Community Field. The last two times the teams faced off were very good games and Friday's clash should be no different.
In 2011, North Attleboro won 22-21 in overtime after Don Johnson elected to go for two. In 2012, Stoughton extracted some revenge at Community Field behind a strong defensive effort and beating the Rocketeers 12-7.
Friday's night match up could very well the third straight game decided by just one score. Stoughton is coming off a season-opening win over Milotn, 20-6. It was a typical defensive effort from the Black Knights while their offense was able to find some success both in the air and on the ground. North Attleboro had their bye week last week.
North Attleboro leads the all-time series 43-17-2.
The game kicks off at 7:00 from Community Field in North Attleboro.

North Attleboro
North Attleboro comes into the game with a chip on its shoulder after slipping to fourth in the Kelley-Rex last season. More importantly, North returns this fall with a traditionally large offensive line, led by captains Maxwell Kroll and Anthony Raneri, which will be counted on to try and wear down teams and let the Rocketeers take advantage of the depth that it has in the backfield.
Brendan Weir and Nick Morrison will hope fill the shoes of Chris Hunter and, prior to an injury, Matt D’Attilio and North boasts a big target on the outside for new quarterback Justin Gallagher in junior Ridge Olsen, who showed flashes during his sophomore season. Steve Dubuc and Andrew Hanwell will also be counted on to provide a spark on the outside, as two of the few players to return with varsity experience from last year.
Defensively, the Rocketeers will again lean on the front seven where there is far more experience. The size up front will be a key against an offense that typically keeps the ball on the ground, but also it will need to put pressure on Stoughton QB Jake Gibb so that he can’t attack the new players in the secondary.
Stoughton
Stoughton got off to a good start last Friday with a big win over Milton and now have another D3 Southwest foe in North Attleboro. The Black Knights - who are the defending D3 Southwest champs - have two other divisional opponents on their schedule after this in Milford and Oliver Ames.
On the offensive side of the ball, Stoughton has one of the top quarterbacks in the league in junior Jake Gibb. The Black Knights have been a run heavy team in years past but things will be a little different this year. Gibb connected with receiver Brandon Swain-Price four times for over a 100 yards against Milton, showing the potential for the pass game. But that doesn't mean Stoughton can't run, especially since they have back Joey Girolamo. The Black Knights rushed for two touchdowns against the Wildcats, showing they can get it done in different ways on offense.
One thing that hasn't changed about Stoughton is their hard-nosed, tough defense. The Black Knights were impressive in the first game of the season with two stops on fourth and short and two interceptions. The one touchdown they allowed was off a drive that started at their own 26-yard line. Stoughton lost a lot of talent to graduation but so far it seems like they have the talent to fill those shoes.

The last two times these teams met, it's been a very close affair. I don't expect this one to be any different. I think Stoughton has a slight advantage because they have one game under the belt already. But North Attleboro always has an advantage when they play at Community Field. I think the Rocketeers big line on both sides of the ball could cause problems as well as their spread offense. Plus, it'd be pretty boring if we all picked the same thing right?
The Pick: North Attleboro 22, Stoughton 21 (OT)

This has been a very even matchup in recent years and this year looks likely to be just as close. Both teams are strong up front and it should be tough to create big plays in the running game. This is going to be a grind it out game and that seems to really suit the Black Knights, especially if Jake Gibb gets time to make plays down field.
The Pick: Stoughton 21, North Attleboro 14

As mentioned above, Stoughton and North have played two down-to-the-wire games in the team's last two meetings. This one won't be any different. Stoughton wins with a red-zone defensive stand in the final minutes. The Black Knights will need to cut down on the turnovers, however, for this to come to fruition (three last week vs Milton). Like what I see from Kirby Impoinvil, Ryan Sullivan & co. complementing Joey Girolamo in the Stoughton backfield. The younger players are stepping up and teaming up with a strong senior class.
The Pick: Stoughton 20, North Attleboro 14

Stoughton may have worked the kinks last week after turning the ball over a few times in a still dominant 20-6 win over Milton. The Black Knights, despite the turnover troubles, showed off their usual strong defense, only surrendering a touchdown after a Milton punt return set them up just outside the red zone. Look for the Stoughton defense to shine once again and for the offense to be more in sync.
The Pick: Stoughton 21, North Attleboro 13
