Games of the Week - 12/14/12
Breakdown
For the first Game of the Week for the winter season, it's pretty fitting that the two last schools to be playing in the Fall -- both Superbowl competitors -- start off. Mansfield is starting the season with a lot of hype from the media. On paper, this team looks to be one of the best in the Hockomock and on top of that, one of the better teams in the entire South. Sharon also looks to be one of the top teams in the league and could surprise a lot of people in the post season.
Mansfield will be hungry after last season, bowing out to rival Franklin in the playoffs. Sharon will be looking to improve off their 6-14 campaign that included a 9-game losing streak.
Players to Watch
For Mansfield, the spotlight has been taken from graduated Brian Hershman and moved to sophomore big man Brendan Hill. The 6-foot-5 forward found some success last year and looks to build on it this year. He'll have juniors Michael Hershman and Rocky DeAndrade at the guard position to spread the floor and then senior Greg Romanko - a forward that can hurt you from outside and inside. Junior Kevin Conner will also be a factor after two solid season on varsity.
The Eagles have one of the best guards in the league in junior Brian Mukasa. Mukasa has become a league-known name ever since he stepped up his freshman year. He'll have Jimmy Fritzon partnered with him at guard and both of them are able to hit the three. Ian Beach and Kevin Bartas - both long bodies - will play a forward-guard combo that fits well into the Eagles' offense. Guards Ade Bright and Sean Asnes will both add a quickness to the Eagles when they come off the bench.
