North Attleboro senior split end and cornerback Andrew Hanwell has been named the HockomockSports.com Player of the Week for the week of September 21-28. Hanwell scored two touchdowns and had two interceptions in the Rocketeers 42-22 win over Mansfield.
"He’s our guy that’s our best athlete out there," said North Attleboro coach Don Johnson on Friday night. "He’s a guy that can make big plays for us both on offense and defense and in the special teams too. Tonight it showed; he came through for us."
Hanwell picked off a Matt Carafa pass at the Rocketeers 15 yard line in the second quarter with the Hornets only down by 12 points. He then finished the ensuing drive with a 13-yard reverse for a touchdown. After a big defensive stand early in the third quarter, Hanwell caught a pass on the sideline and raced 78 yards to make it 28-9. Hanwell had a second interception in the fourth quarter.
“I think it’s a good confidence boost,” said Hanwell about the big win, “but we can’t let it go to our heads. We’ve got to keep going and we’ve got KP and Attleboro that are tough games…we’ve just got to come out firing again.”
Player of the Week is selected by the HockomockSports.com staff. Nominations can be submitted throughout the week up until Saturday night at midnight. There will be a poll posted on every Sunday with the nominations. The results of the poll influence the selection but do not strictly dictate the decision.
