This is Coach Jim Artz of Oliver Ames High School and I have been coaching High School football for 22 years and I thought I had seen it all. For people to hide behind an anonymous posts and take shots at kids might be an all time low. I am even more disappointed to think that it is from my program. Whether you are a parent or player to take a shot at one of your own because you, your friend or child was not selected is very unfortunate. For those of you who do not know how the system works coaches nominate their players and I nominated 6 players this year, five players were selected and one player was given honorable mention. Instead of looking at this as a great success for the program having 5 All Stars and the League MVP some will find a way to take make a political statement. I am only one of six coaches that select the team, are there times when kids deserving of being on the team are left off absolutely, that can be said of any all star team. All of my players were very deserving this year and I would have loved for all to make it. We preach family and team first to all and it is sad that the lesson is lost on people. Any award that an individual or team wins is brought on through team success and would not be possible without the commitment from the whole team. We are quick to forget where this program was just a few short years ago and through the efforts of all of my players all stars or not we would not be here today. That can also be said about Mr. Tepper and what he has done to help the program. In my time at O.A. there have been so many boosters to thank for their tireless effort and support. I single out Rich Tepper as no insult to the others but Rich has been singled out here as if his support was rewarded with getting his son's on the All League Team. That is offensive on multiple levels. If I were to reward playing time and accolades based on booster support we would never have reached the limited success we have in the last three years. To think that Mr. Teppers support has only helped his children would be even more offensive, his actions have helped the school in general with his involvement the scholarship committee, football boosters, basketball boosters as well as the weight room in general. There have been so many wonderful supportive people that I have dealt with in my time here and Mr. Tepper is up there with the best. In no way has he ever tried to influence my coaching decisions and has only been supportive. Going forward I hope that we as a program will refrain from any negative dialogue whether it be of any opponents or one of our own. We strive every day to have a first class program and these comments were not indicative of such class. If there are any questions or concerns with how we run our program at O.A. it will gladly make myself available to answer them. I can be reached at [email protected] Thank you
