The MIAA is on the verge of realigning and Hockomock basketball will be heavily affected for the 2013-2014 season. Five boys Hockomock teams will either be changing divisions or regions.
The road will get arguably easier for the defending Kelley-Rex champions Franklin. The Panthers will switch from D1 South to D1 Central. If the change had happened last year, Franklin's 17-3 record would have been good enough for a tie for the top seed. They will no longer have to worry about facing state runner up Brockton, or Madison Park, or league rivals Mansfield and Taunton. Hock newcomer Milford will go from D1 Central to D2 Central.
King Philip, fresh off graduating Jake Layman, will now elevate from D2 South to D1 South. They will be joined by Hopkinton High School, who has had plenty of battles against Hockomock teams the past two seasons. The Hillers eliminated KP last year and dropped Stoughton and OA in 2011.
On the contrary, the road might be getting somewhat more difficult for Canton and Foxboro. Both teams have been helped by the Sullivan Rule in past seasons. Now, they will both play in the D2 South playoffs rather than D3 South.
On the girls side, Franklin girls will also make the swap from D1 South to D1 Central and Canton girls will go from D3 South to D2 South. Two girls teams will drop a level as Stoughton and North Attleboro will make the switch from D1 to D2 South.
