Assumption college senior defensive end Derrick Mann has continued to rack up awards this fall. The Sharon alum was recently named the NE-10 Defensive Player of the Year and to the NE-10 All-Conference Team (for the second straight season). This week he added the 19th annual Joe Zabilski Award, given to the top defensive player in Division II by the Gridiron Club of Greater Boston. He was also named as a New England Football Writers (NEFW) Division II All-New England All-Star for the second straight season. According to the school, Mann is one of just four repeat All-New England selections from 2013 among Division II/III teams.
Another repeat on the NEFW list is Bentley University senior wide receiver Jeff Hill, who also became the first Bentley player to be named to the NE-10 First Team Offense for the third straight season. The Mansfield grad led the NE-10 with 1,113 receiving yards and 12 TD receptions. He made 68 catches this season, including six of 50 or more yards. Hill finished his career with 200 career receptions and 3,489 yards, which is fifth best among active DII receivers and third most in Bentley history. He had 37 TDs in his four seasons and is fourth in school history with 224 points.
A pair of former North Attleboro players were named to the NE-10 Second Team by the league's coaches. Sophomore left tackle Eric Beckwith, who is also the school's record holder in outdoor shot put, and junior defensive end Paul Norris, who finished with 13 tackles for loss and seven sacks and this month was named to the Capital One All-Academic District Team, both earned the honor.
Former Foxboro standout Ty Spencer was named to the 2014 Capital One All-District team. Spencer had his senior year cut short by injury, but still was one of the Falcons' top receivers. He ranked fourth on the team in receptions, picking up 298 yards and two touchdowns in just four games. Spencer was also a member of the Dean's List, President's List, and National Collegiate Athlete Honor Society.
Stoughton alum Matt Green added to his list of accolades this week when he was chosen for the NEWF team, also for the second straight season. The senior wide receiver from Bridgewater State, who was named the league's Offensive Player of the Year and All-Conference as a receiver and returner, caught 64 passes for 900 yards this season and led the MASCAC with 112.5 receiving yards per game and third in receptions and yards despite missing a pair of games to injury. This season Green also set new marks at Bridgewater State for career yards and receptions and finished second in career touchdowns.
George Busharis of Mansfield was named to the ECFC First team Offense, despite playing in only six games for Castleton College this fall. The junior quarterback led the league in passing yards with 1,452, yards per game with 242, and with 15 touchdowns. He was also tops in completion percentage at 52.2 percent. He was recently named the conference Player of the Week after throwing six TDs against Norwich in the final game of the season.
Craig Anderson and Jake Cox were each named to the NEFC All-Conference Second Team for their play for Endicott this season. Cox, a King Philip alum and senior defensive back, earned his second All-Conference nod for his two interceptions and eight pass breakups. He also recorded 57 tackles (42 solo), a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery. Franklin grad Anderson was coming off a Defensive Rookie of the Year season and recorded double digit tackles four times this fall. He also forced a fumble and blocked a kick this year.
Former King Philip standout Kevin Donahue was named the MASCAC Defensive Player of the Year and an All-Conference First Team player and this week was added to the NEFW DII/DIII All-New England team. Donahue, a senior safety, led Framingham State with 95 tackles and set a school record with 77 solo tackles. He added 11-1/2 tackles for loss, four sacks, five pass breakups, and a forced fumble.
Another former King Philip player, Alec May, was also a conference all-star. May, a senior defensive end at Georgetown, was named to the All-Patriot League First Team for the second time in his career. May, who is also on the Watch List for the Buck Buchanan Award given to the top defensive player in the FCS (formerly D-IAA), led the league with 20-1/2 tackles for loss (good for sixth in FCS) and led the nation in yards lost on those tackles with 142. He set a Georgetown single-season record with 16.5 sacks and added 89 tackles, which was best in FCS among defensive linemen.
UMass Dartmouth senior wide receiver Abiola Aborishade was named to the All-MASCAC First Team for the first time in his career. Aborishade, an Attleboro grad, was named to the second team last year as a returner. He set the program record for receptions with 84 this season, 15 more than the previous mark, while also finishing second on the team in rushing yards with 268 and fourth in rushing touchdowns with four. He finished in the top five in school history in four receiving categories and accounted for more than 2,900 yards in his career.
Western New England junior linebacker Dean Soucie was named to the All-NEFC First Team after recording a career-high 103 tackles, which was 36 more than his previous two seasons combined. The Oliver Ames product also recorded a sack, 5-1/2 tackles for loss, two interceptions, and four pass breakups.
Milford alum Zack Skerry earned his first All-MASCAC honor at Worcester State. The senior defensive end and four-year player for the Lancers was fifth on the team with 56 tackles (36 solo). he added 16 tackles for loss and 7-1/2 sacks. Skerry played 40 games in his career and had 33-1/2 tackles for loss and 15 sacks in that time.
Franklin grad Brandon Eccher was named to the All-Liberty First Team. The sophomore wide receiver was in the top three in the conference in receptions with 46 and yards with 528. He also caught four touchdown passes this season. Eccher was also named a first team Capital One Academic All-District I selection.
Junior forward Scott Levy was named to the All-NE-10 Third Team for Bentley University. The Canton product led the team in scoring for the second season in a row and finished with six goals, which was 11th in the league. This is his second All-NE-10 nod after making the first team in 2013.
Former North Attleboro midfielder Josh Ocel was named to the UAA First Team following his sophomore season at Brandeis. The midfielder was led the conference with eight assists and was sixth in scoring with 16 points overall. Brandeis advanced to the NCAA quarterfinals before being knocked out by Oneonta State over the weekend.
Former HockomockSports.com Player of the Year David MacKinnon was named to the America East All-Conference Second Team this season. The sophomore goalkeeper at Hartford earned his second straight All-Conference nod. The Oliver Ames alum finished with a 0.92 goials against average and recorded seven clean sheets, which ups his career total to 17 and places him already in the top 60 in the program's history.
Senior defender Mariah McGrath of Mansfield was named to the All-MASCAC Sportsmanship Team. McGrath started all 16 games for Mass Maritime this season and recorded a pair of goals.
Junior defender Mario Andrade was named an Honorable Mention on the All-USA South Atlantic Conference at UNC Wesleyan. The Attleboro product started 16 games this season for the Bishops.
Another Attleboro product is having a big season for Providence College. Sophomore Dominik Machado scored a pair of goals to lead the Friars to a 3-0 win over Dartmouth in the NCAA tournament and advanced PC to the program's first ever Sweet 16. Machado was also named to the All-Big East Second Team. He now has four goals on the season and will be part of the Friars lineup against UC Irvine this weekend.
Mansfield grad Tyler Brondyk was named an All-NE 10 Third Team forward at Stonehill this season. The senior was second on the team with 13 points, including five goals and three assists. He made 17 starts this season as a senior captain.
Four-year starter Matt Keys was named to the All-Atlantic 10 First Team at center back for UMass Amherst. The King Philip standout scored a pair of goals for the Minutemen this season and is the program's first First Team player since 2009. He has helped the team record 13 clean sheets in his four years.
Freshman Joe Kalil was named All-CCC during his first season at Wentworth. The Franklin grad started 15 of 16 games this season and scored five goals, which was second on the team, while his 10 points were fourth on the squad.
Sacred Heart's Kim McNally was selected to the Second Team All-Northeast Conference as well as the NEC All Rookie Team. The Canton grad started all 19 games playing defense in her first year, playing the full 90 minutes in 16 games. The defender also picked up an assist in her rookie campaign.
Ashleigh Chretien was named to the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference's All Conference First Team. The North Attleboro graduate tied for the league lead with eight assists and was third on Westfield's team in scoring with seven goals for 22 points. Chretien, a senior, was named to a MASCAC All Conference for the third straight year.
Former HockomockSports.com and Massachusetts Gatorade Player of the Year Kristi Kirshe is still in the midst of a historic season with Williams College. Kirshe was named to the First Team All-NESCAC after her 12 goals during the regular season, which was tied for the team and conference lead. She added four assists to total 28 points in the regular season. Williams has advanced to the Final Four of the D3 NCAA Tournament and Kirshe has been a big reason. In the first weekend of games, Kirshe scored both of the Ephs' goals in a 2-0 win over LaSalle. The next day, Kirshe scored her first collegiate hat trick to break Williams' single-season scoring record and lift the Ephs into the Sweet 16. Williams will take on John Hopkins in Kansas City on December 5th with the winner going to the D3 NCAA Finals.
Worcester State's Alicia Macomber was named the MASCAC Player of the Year for Women's Soccer. The former Stoughton standout was also selected to the MASCAC All-Conference First Team. Macomber is tied for fourth in the MASCAC with 15 goals and six assists and set the Worcester State record for points in a season with 36. Macomber scored nine of her goals and half of her assists in conference play this year.
Canton graduate Julia Murphy continues to haul in awards for her outstanding sophomore season. Murphy was named a American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Honorable Mention All-American. On top of that, Murphy was named to the AVCA All-Region team. For the second straight year, Murphy was named the Little East Conference Offensive Player of the Year after having a conference best .295 hitting percentage and 297 kills. Murphy led the Beacons with 10 or more kills in 16 matches and was the first UMass Boston volleyball player to be named LEC Offensive Player of the Year as both a freshman and sophomore.
A trio of former Hockomock players earned Little East Conference honors for field hockey. Mansfield graduate Meg Doherty, who is now competing at Westfield State, was picked for the All-LEC Second Team. Doherty, a sophomore, had three goals and five assists this season. Framingham State's Cady Kelly (Canton) and Worcester State's Kelli McPherson (Mansfield) were named to the All-LEC Third Team. Kelly led the Rams in scoring with 14 goals and had one assist for 29 points and had four game-winning goals. This was the third time McPherson has been named to an All-LEC team and had six assists playing in center midfield.
Foxboro's Abby Tepper was selected to the All-Commonwealth Coast Conference Field Hockey Team. Now playing at Salve Regina, Tepper was selected to the All-CCC First Team after leading the Seahawks in scoring with 19 goals and eight assists for 46 points. Her goals and points ranked second in the CCC and had six game-winning goals this season.
Saint Anselm's Bridget Davis earned a spot on the Northeast-10 All-Conference Second Team. Davis, a senior this year and former Mansfield Hornet, started all 17 games for the Hawks and had three goals and one assist. She patrolled the center of the midfield for St. A's and was selected to play in the NFHCA D2 Senior Game.
