Games of the Week - 2/2/13
Breakdown
Oliver Ames and Attleboro will meet in Taunton on Saturday in a crossover Hockomock league game. Attleboro comes in with a 6-5-3 record and is coming off an impressive tie with North Attleboro. They started the season 5-2-1, but had road trips to Franklin, Mansfield, and King Philip that helped even out their record. A win over Taunton and the 2-2 tie with North brings Attleboro to a big game against Oliver Ames. OA enters Saturday with a 7-4-1 record, coming off a very impressive 6-1 win over Milford. The Tigers are 3-1 in their last four Hockomock games, outscoring opponents 21-2.
Attleboro is currently the top scoring team in the league, a fraction of a point above Franklin. Oliver Ames might be on a scoring streak, but have made their money this season because of their defense and goaltending. The Tigers are only allowing 1.8 goals a game, good for fourth in the Hockomock. Attleboro has yet to be shutout this season and have only been limited to one goal in just two games. Oliver Ames has three shutouts on the season and have allowed just one goal in two more.
Players to Watch
The name most people will know by this point will be Attleboro forward Zack Dragun. The senior entered this week of play with a league-high 29 points and eclipsed the 30-point plateau with an assist on Wednesday. He's a strong, crafty forward who is just as good at scoring as he is as setting up his teammates. Dragun's classmate and line mate Ryan Holske isn't just a complimentary player, as he has racked up 9 goals and 9 assists this season. The duo work very well together as was seen in Attleboro's win over Taunton as Holske picked up helpers on two of Dragun's goals. Attleboro has also recieved solid play from their junior Andrew Campion. Campion has posted a 2.78 GAA and a 0.881 save percentage.
For Oliver Ames, sophomore goalie Jimmy Tierney continues to shine. Tierney's 1.62 GAA is one of the best in the league and he has kept OA in almost every game this season. Tierney has a solid defensive core in front of him, led by senior defensive pair Andrew Mancini and Kyle Hayes. The two compliment each other well and can produce offensive numbers, as seen Wednesday when Hayes picked up a hat trick. Andrew Romans and Corey McLaughlin have also been solid in the back for the Tigers. Offensively, Justin Davidner has been OA's leading scorer with six goals and four helpers. Sophomore Tyler Provost has shown flashes of real good skill and can strike at any point.

Local Experts:
Jim Clark, The Boston Herald: Attleboro certainly has had a great season so far. They have the top scorer in the league in Zach Dragun and an underrated netminder in Andrew Campion. But I think Oliver Ames has faced a little bit tougher competition overall this season. As long as the Tigers aren't looking ahead to their big game Wednesday at Asiaf against Franklin, I think they ride Jimmy Tierney to a low-scoring victory in this one -- probably 2-1 or 3-1.
The Pick: Oliver Ames
